A Beckley woman is at Southern Regional Jail on one felony charge of child neglect following a drug-related incident.
According to the criminal complaint filed in Raleigh County, Beckley police officers responded to a call on June 18 on Earwood Street regarding a CPR in progress. Upon arrival, officers witnessed a male “laying in a bedroom floor actively overdosing.”
In an attempt to revive the male, one officer performed a sternum rub, the complaint continues. Once EMS arrived on scene, they administered two doses of Narcan to the male to “bring him conscious.”
While inside the home, officers noticed “drug paraphernalia around children’s toys and clothes throughout multiple rooms in the house,” according to the complaint. An infant child had been in the residence at the time of the overdose.
The child’s mother, Lanequa Lashay Johnson, 36, was arrested for child neglect creating risk of injury or death and CPS was notified.
Her surety/cash bond has been set at $3,500.
